Poetic Word of Magzhan Is Directed Towards Future!
On March 13, 2009, in the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, there was a press-conference on announcing a book for “One Country – One Book” Action. Participants were the following: Kyrykbayev A.O., Chair of the Committee of Culture, Ministry of Culture and Information of RK; members of the Action organizing committee – Esim Garifolla, Deputy of Senate, RK Parliament; Smail A.Z., Deputy of Mazhilis, RK Parliament, writer, academician, Doctor of Philosophy; Berdigalieva R.A., Director General of NABRK, President of Library Association of RK; Tarazi A.U., writer, First Secretary of the Association of Writers, Astana city; Kairat Zhumagaliev, well-known poet.
Republican “One Country – One Book” Action is conducted by the Ministry of Culture and Information of RK on suggestion of the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Library Association of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This Action has several tasks: promotion of book, preservation of historical-cultural and spiritual heritage, patriotic upbringing, and attraction of readers. Chair of the Action organizing committee is Fariza Ungarsynova, poet, laureate of RK State Prize. Famous poets, writers, and academicians are members of the organizing committee.
Kazakhstan readers will be acquainted with poems of prominent Kazakh poet Magzhan Zhumabayev and read his book “Zhan Syozi”. The Action will give opportunity to learn Magzhan Zhumabayev's creative works and discover new sides of his creativity. Also, the Action will promote reading and attract readers' attention to native and world literature. Participants of press-conference noted the importance of the Action in promoting Kazakh literature and M. Zhumabayev's role in Kazakhstani poetry.
Libraries will be centres of the Action conducting various events: days of poetry, festivals, reading marathons, contests. “Round table” with participation of well-known writers and poets, conversaziones, meetings of Club of Young Poets, loud readings in the reading room for disabled people will take place in the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NABRK).
NABRK specialists prepared methodological guidelines for publication. They describe different forms of cultural activities among readers made by librarians, programme “Reading is Family's Affair”, provision on “One Country – One Book” Action. There is a lot of information about M. Zhumabayev's life and creativity, bibliography and scenario of event devoted to him. The methodological guidelines can be used by librarians, lecturers, and specialists.
Journalists of “Khabar” TV, “Astana TV”, Kazakh radio, information agency “Kazinform”, some newspapers participated at the press-conference. Thanks to mass media, two previous actions were widely promoted in the country. About one million people participated there. Those actions were directed on reading of Abai's “Book of Words” and Auezov's story “Hard Times”. Those works reflected ideas of humanism, historical and cultural traditions.
Magzhan Zhumabayev, Akhmet Baitursynov, Myrzhakyp Dulatov, Zhusupbek Aimautov, Shakarim Kudaiberdiyev represent a glorious pleiad of Kazakh intelligentsia whose creative works have been forbidden for publication for many years.
Magzhan is a national Kazakh poet. He inherited this title from the great Kazakh poet Abai. Magzhan was born in 1893 in North Kazakhstan. He started writing poetry when he was 14. He studied Turk, Arabian, Persian and Russian languages. His first poetry collection “Sholpan” (“Venus”) was published in Kazan, in 1912. He wrote his own poems and translated works of Russian poets and writers. He became the first Kazakh poet who got the higher literary education. Head of Moscow Higher Literary-Art Institute, poet V.Bryusov called him Kazakh Pushkin.
Magzhan Zhumabayev became victim of Stalin's repressions. He was arrested and spent five years in hard conditions of lumbering in Karelia. After discharge in 1935 he was arrested again in a year. Leaving home for last time, Magzhan told his wife, “I am not guilty”. He was shot in prison in 1938.
Poetic heritage of Magzhan Zhumabayev is rich in new forms. His poetic culture, high skill strongly affected creativity of famous poets. He was writing about steppe as synonym of nation loved by him very much. He attributed soul to nature, he provided landscape with lively features. He united a human with nature removing border between human inner world and world of natural phenomena. Depicting various year seasons and parts of day, different natural states, the poet used them as means for expressing state of lyrical hero.
Love lyrics was one of the most favorite genres of the poet. Sorrow and sadness, emotion and waiting, suffering and repentance sound in his poems. His poetry is saturated with all shades of feeling of love, all colours of the rainbow. He shows cautious attitude to a woman, depicts tender and subtle image of beloved woman.
Philosophical lyrics presents the whole world – tragic and harmonic, clever and sensory. Poet's reflections and pain become aware in his poems “Thoughts”, “Illness”, “To Stars”, “Alexander Block”, “Beauty in Mourning”, “Woman”, “East”, “Word of Lame Timur”, “Dark Hurricane Night”, “Butterfly”.
