Databases are powerful resource of any library. Therefore the National Academic Library doesn't miss access to new databases. This time in library David Horky, the manager of agency “Thomson Reuters” on region of the Central Asia and East Europe, has been invited. He has arrived to Astana on the international conference “IPEC-4”, which holds Ministry of Education and Science of RK. On June, 17th, of current year at the initiative of NAB RK David Horky has held a seminar for librarians of Astana “About new possibilities of access to electronic scientific editions “Thomson Reuters”.
Agency “Thomson Reuters” is the largest informational provider in the world. The main office located in state of Philadelphia, the USA. The agency is engaged in granting of the scientific information about 50 years and includes some sections basically in English. At a seminar it was a question of databases «Web of Science» and «ISI Proceedings». «Web of Science» provides access to scientific citations from more than 11 thousand of the most influential scientific magazines in the world.
Readers can receive the current and retrospective information covering more than 25 scientific areas, since 1900. Citations and records are supplied by summaries and references to full texts of articles from magazines. The section «ISI Proceedings» is devoted the information on current and forthcoming events in the science world (conference, symposiums, seminars, etc.). Besides, it gives access to already published materials of conferences. 70 % of data from this section are unique, i.e. are not accessible in printing editions.
At a seminar David Horky has told to librarians of Astana about methods of search of the scientific information during work with Databases «Thomson Reuters», and has acquainted with agency novelties, and terms of subscription. Thanking «Thomson Reuters» librarians can assist scientists, science officers in improvement of quality of researches, in operative search of that treasured, effective information. Besides on Agency resources «Thomson Reuters» it is possible to reveal the most actual, interesting magazines and to subscribe to these editions.
