To supply readers with the latest and quality information is the actual task of the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NABRK). On 7 October 2009, an information seminar-presentation of the world-known Springer company for the NABRK staff and the librarians of Astana took place on NABRK's initiative. Seminar was conducted by Sitki Aktas, Licensing Manager of the Springer company. T.Ermekpaeva and N.Agzamova, NABRK specialists, provided translation from English into Russian during presentation.
Springer is one of the leading world companies. Its products are journals, book series, books, reference works, collection archives and databases. They are designated for researches, and all those who are interested in technics, science, and medicine. The articles suggested by their authors for publication are considered first by competent scientists for thorough appraisal. Only 20% of articles out of 100% are approved for publication. The rest 80% doesn't meet the requirements.
The lecturer introduced the database content and told how to make a search of information.
Beginning from February 1, 2010, a free full-text access to all the materials of Springer company will be provided for readers in the libraries of Astana on site www.springerlink.com.
Seminar-presentation in Astana was the first meeting of Kazakhstani people with Springer company. It took place in NABRK, and this was not accidental. In Sitki Aktas's opinion, “Kazakhstan is a dynamically developing country where great attention is paid to education issues. Today, libraries role is changed in information society. Libraries serve readers not only at local place but also at distance. And it is very important. Today, one cannot disseminate information out of control, information has to be managed, and that is why we need to pass it to reliable hands – librarians' hands. Only they are able to collate information and show its importance”.
Forty librarians of Astana visited the seminar-presentation of the world-known Springer Company. It means that readers of the capital will get new and full-text information in technics, science, and medicine soon.
